Getting Closer

Well, it all begins July 5th. And we hope to use this blog to chronicle our thoughts and experiences while spending 27 months in the Kyrgyz Republic with the Peace Corps. So far what we know is that Sarah will be teaching English at a university and I will be aiding in the development of non-governmental organizations. We will also have an opportunity to learn either Russian or Kyrgyz. We’ll find out more once we’re in-country. And when we know, we’ll post.

For now, Sarah and I are doing what we can to prepare. Now that we’re done with school, we put our home on the market and are preparing to sell our vehicles. When Sarah’s done with teaching, we’ll be moving from Ventura to Solano County for a couple of weeks before leaving for Philadelphia then to Kyrgyzstan. We’ve started learning the Cyrillic alphabet and a few very basic Russian phrases, compiling a packing list, and reading whatever we can get our eyes on about the Kyrgyz Republic. We each have to keep our total baggage weight under 100 pounds, so packing should be interesting. Any tips are welcomed. And, once we’re in-country, care packages will be generously accepted! =)

Well, that’s about it for now. Don’t want to bore you too much on the first post. Please check back soon as we continue to add to this site. And feel free to leave a comment. We’d love to hear from you.
